Description
George Washington Pierce, writing from Boston to his brother Josiah Pierce of Gorham, discussed public discussion and legal hearings relating to alleged libel by Theodore Lyman, who claimed Daniel Webster and others were plotting against the U.S. government.
He said many considered Webster "hasty" in pursuing the case of libel.
Pierce also discussed his plans to move to the west, commenting that everyone tried to discourage him from doing so, but that he planned to continue his trip west and see for himself.
