Description

Engraving of Jacob Abbott's home in Farmington named Fewacres. Inset is an engraved image of Jacob Abbott. He was born in 1803 in Hallowell and died in Farmington in 1879. He wrote fictional books for children, most of them in series, and is credited with writing some of the earliest American juvenile literature deserving of the term "children's literature." He and his four sons had a long association with Farmington, and with the forerunner organizations of the current Public Library.
