Description

This sepia-toned photograph of the First National Bank located at 45-47 Front Street shows the interior of the bank, complete with its elaborate counter and teller cages. The First National Bank had not yet taken over the Lincoln Bank and moved to the Lincoln Block, but would do so in approximately 5 years. The photograph shows the elaborate tin ceiling and tile floor, typical of the period's interest in architectural details. Largely decorative, but defensive in appearance, the detailing of the counter and teller cages provided attractive, visual protection for the safety of bank deposits. The employees pictured include Grace Woodbury (Cahill) (1877-1961), Roy Black, and Charles Potter (1877-1905).
