Description

Cleaves Tavern, originally the Chaloner House, was built by Col. William Chaloner in 1820 and offered accommodations to passengers arriving by stagecoach from Machias. At the time this photo was taken Emeline, Bonnie and Alice Northrup occupied the property. Car in driveway is their 1954 Plymouth.
