Description

Factory No. 1. Many small sardine firms consolidated into the Seacoast Company at the beginning of the Twentieth Century. The company experienced ups and downs, finally selling out in 1923 from financial difficulty. Note two factory steam whistles to right of large stack. In left background, Treat’s Island with a few buildings. Right background, Pope’s Folly Island.
