Description

This postcard shows the buildings of Ryder's Cove c. 1911. On the left is the Seaside House, originally called the Islesborough, which was the island's first summer resort hotel.

Printed on postcard, "Ryders Cove Islesboro, ME."

Not only was Ryder's Cove Islesboro's first summer resort, it was also a year round community. The image illustrates the fact that the various communities on Islesboro such as Ryder's Cove were self-contained. These settlements had their own stores, schools, churches, wharves and post offices.
