Description
In 1828 a three-story wooden hotel, called the Knox House, was built by Joseph Berry on the south side of Main Street. It was immediately occupied as a tavern by Charles Sampson of Waldoboro and later by his son-in-law, John Balch, a shoe dealer from Haverhill, MA.
A stable was built behind the building.
