Description

This house was built on Main Street between 1820 and 1835 and was long referred to as the Old Snow House. Built by Thomas Snow, the building had 17 rooms and was described as a dwelling house and store on Main Street. Captain Thomas A. Snow was the son of Captain Ambrose Snow, Sr. He was a master mariner and hotel keeper and left Thomaston to carry on a tow boat business in New Orleans.

The building was moved back to Starr Street before the Union Block was built in 1857 to the lot which now serves as the American Legion parking lot. Dr. Jerome Bushnell owned and lived in the house with his daughter, actress Adelyn Bushnell. In 1927, she was the highest paid stock actress in New England.

At one time, the Bushnell home was the Thomaston Inn and contained two tap rooms and a large dining room. The building is no longer standing.
