Description
In the 1930s the private Portland Railroad Company began replacing trolleys with buses that were not limited by track routes.
The Congress Street line ended service in July 1940.
The tracks were no longer needed and were a hazard to automobiles and pedestrians. The Portland City Council voted to remove the tracks. Work began in summer of 1941.
The film was taken ca. 1940 by the Portland Engraving Company for the city of Portland.
