Description

The second-floor plan for a cottage for treatment of tuberculosis at the Maine State Sanatorium at Hebron. The second-floor rooms probably were for staff, with patients housed in the first-floor rooms that were open to fresh air.

Dr. Estes Nichols, founder of the privately operated facility, worked with Portland architects John Calvin Stevens and John Howard Stevens to design the cottages to meet his treatment goals.
