This drawing depicts the buildings and open space area located at the intersection of Congress and Montgomery streets in Portland as they appeared in 1845.

Charles Quincy Goodhue (1835-1910), a Portland amateur artist, spent the last 20 years of his life sketching Portland as it looked before the fire of 1866.
