George M. Seiders, Portland, ca. 1895

Description

George Melville Seiders, who served in the 24th Maine Infantry, worked as a farmer after the war, then worked for a while in a machine shop until he decided to get an education.

He taught school while studying at Bowdoin, and continued that pursuit after graduating in 1872.

He served in the Maine House in 1877, representing North Yarmouth. In 1892 and 1894, he was elected to the Maine Senate, representing Portland. He served as president during his second term.
