Description

A lifelong resident of Bangor, Henry Lord (1847- ) studied law, but focused his life's work on business.

He operated a ship brokerage and became an extensive shipper of ice, lumber, hay, slate, brick and last blocks under the firm name of Henry Lord & Co., ship brokers and commission merchants.

Besides his business activities, Lord served as president of the Board of Trustees of the Maine State College and president of the Board of Westbrook Seminary.

He was a member of the Bangor City Council and, in 1876, was elected to the Maine House of Representatives. He served as speaker during his second term.

Later he served two terms in the Maine Senate and was president during the second term.
