Description

Franklin Pierce (1804-1869) of New Hampshire wrote to his distant cousin and law school roommate George Washington Pierce of Portland, commenting on George's slowness in writing and teasing him about his preoccupation with Anne Longfellow, his fiancee.

Franklin Pierce also discussed politics in the letter. He was a member of the New Hampshire House and a future U.S. president.
