Description
Franklin Pierce (1804-1869) of New Hampshire wrote to his distant cousin and fellow Bowdoin College alum George Washington Pierce (1805-1835), then in Washington, D.C., about G.W. Pierce's thoughts about moving west and Franklin Pierce's own thoughts about doing the same.
Franklin planned no entanglements that would keep him in New England. The next year, however, he was elected to the New Hampshire House of Representatives, later to the New Hampshire Senate, and became President of the U.S, in 1853.
