Description

In 1927, the Seppala Siberian Husky team and the American teams of Chinooks held a challenge sled dog race at Poland Spring resort.

Leonhard Seppala's team had transported diphtheria serum to Nome, Alaska, during an outbreak of that disease in 1925.

Seppala had two teams at the race. The smaller Alaskan dogs won the challenge race.

The musher's name is Kingiak, but was incorrectly identified during the day as Kinglak. The dog Togo is under Kingiak's left arm.
