Description
The Donaque Cottage was located on the Cleftstone Rd. in Bar Harbor. It was built in 1893-94 for A. Howard Hinckle of Cincinnati. It was designed by Boston architects Andrews, Jaques, & Rantoul. Hinckle died in 1911. His widow continued to own the house. In 1914 Mrs. Hinckle was a participant in one of Bar Harbor's most notable events. In August of 1914 the North German liner Kronprinzessin Cecile, while on her way to Germany, was told to seek a secure haven. On August 4, 1914 the skipper, Captain Charles Pollak, pulled the ship into Bar Harbor.
The Donaque was demolished about 1939.
