Description

Frederick Alton Powers (1855-1923) graduated from Bowdoin College (1875) and studied law with his brother in Houlton.

He was a member of the Maine State Legislature (1885-1889); Attorney-General for the State of Maine (1893-1897) and Appointed Associate Justice of the Supreme Judicial Court of Maine (1900-1907).

He died in his winter home in Florida, 1923.

Five of Frederick's eight brothers were in law and politics, including Llewellyn Powers, Speaker of the Maine House of Representatives (1895-1896), Governor of Maine (1897- 1901); Donald Powers, Speaker of the Maine House of Representatives (1907-1908); Gorham Powers, judge in Minnesota.
