Potato Barrel Truck, Presque Isle

Contributed by Presque Isle Historical Society

Description

Edmund Beaulieu, a Presque Isle farmer, bought this truck new in 1946. Farmer Alan Kelley bought it from him in about 1960.

The third and present owner, Richard Rand purchased the truck in 1990 to put on display in area parades and car shows. The body is built low to accommodate the loading of barrels. There is a battery powered hoist for lifting full barrels of potatoes onto the truck during harvest. This type of body was on many farm trucks in the area up to the mid-1950s.

The rear tires are military type which were plentiful after WWII.
