Description
Camden Light on Negro Island. The printed information on the back of the postcard reads: "Quoting from Robinson's history of Camden, Negro Island was named in the following manner: A Sloop was passing the island and the Negro cook pointing to it said, 'There is my island.' Hence the name Negro Island."
In 1934, the town voted to change the name of the island to Curtis Island in honor of publisher Cyrus H. K. Curtis. It became town property in 1973.
