Leonard Woods letter to John Fogg, 1846

Description

Leonard Woods (1807-1878) was the fourth president of Bowdoin College in Brunswick. When he became president in 1839, he was 39 years old, one of the youngest college presidents in the U.S. He held the post until 1866.

Woods wrote to John S. H. Fogg, a physician and autograph collector, to certify that Fogg had graduated from Bowdoin.

Woods received advanced degrees from Colby College, Harvard and Bowdoin. He studies and taught at Bangor Theological Seminary.
