Eliot High School, Eliot, 1910

Contributed by William Fogg Library

Description

The Eliot High School was built in 1906 to serve as a centralized school for the upper grades of the Eliot School system. The primary grades were served by eight individual one-room school districts located throughout the town. This school replaced the free high school, which operated out of the Eliot Town Hall building from 1888 to 1901. When a much larger high school building was built in 1940, this building was converted into the Eliot Town Hall. It served as the town hall until 1989 when its failing condition caused t to be torn down and replaced.
