View of the John Mead Howells home, Kittery Point. The photo was taken by G. Herbert Whitney, whose wife, Emmie Bailey Whitney, was a writer and editor at the Lewiston Journal Saturday Magazine.

Howells (1868-1959) was a noted architect who designed Rockefeller Center in New York, the New York Daily News building and the Chicago Tribune building.
