Description
Henry Thurston Clark shipped a valise across the country by rail in 1873 to prove that such shipping was feasible and desirable. The valise went from Halifax, Nova Scotia, to San Francisco and contained a can of water from the Atlantic Ocean to be dumped into the Pacific.
This label reads: "This can was made and sent in this valise by Henry Thurston Clark the Genl Baggage Agent E & N A R [rest missing] Bangor"
