Potsdam Musket, 1833

Contributed by Aroostook County Historical and Art Museum

Description

At the beginning of the Civil War both the Union and the Confederacy were short of arms and sent agents to Europe to buy weapons. Many of the weapons purchased, such as the Potsdam Musket, were obsolete. Made in Prussia, the Potsdam Musket received its name from the city of manufacture marked on the lockplate.
