Description

The "Den" in the Wadsworth-Longfellow House in Portland, Maine. In the middle of the twentieth century, this room became known as "The Rainy Day Room" because it is where Henry Wadsworth Longfellow wrote the poem "The Rainy Day."

From 1853 to 1901 this room served as the summer dining room for Henry's sister, Anne Longfellow Pierce. This building was home to the Wadsworth and Longfellow families. It is now part of the Maine Historical Society.
