Description

"Here we see a flanger that was built by the Portland Company even down to its company-marked wheels. The scraping mechanism under the car was to clear ice and snow from between the rails to keep the trains from being derailed when snow packed down and froze.'--Fletcher, David H. 'The Portland Company 1846-1982.' Charleston, S.C. : Arcadia Pub., 2002. 42.
