Description

Manuscript map #36 showing the Hugh Wilson property in Topsham, Maine, 1762. This map was commissioned by the Pejepscot Purchase Company. In November of that same year, Hugh Wilson and 12 other Topsham settlers sent a letter to Belcher Noyes, complaining about unfair company activity. The letter threatened that "if you do not consider us in this thing, we shall be obliged to revolt as we are stiled rebellious. We have the possession and have it fenced and are resolved to defend it against all opposition in case the proprietors shall refuse to comply with the first proposals."
