Description
Architecture commission for Gorham Academy at 100 School Street in Gorham, ME, 1909. The commission is associated with John Calvin Stevens and John Howard Stevens Architects. This item is part of the Stevens Architects drawings and records collection.
The Gorham Academy opened in 1806. Thomas McLellan gave an acre of land on which to erect the academy. Samuel Elder contracted to put up the wooden building, 50 feet long, 40 feet wide, two stories high with a cupola for a bell. This was the first bell hung in Gorham.
These drawings are from the alterations made in 1909 by John Calvin Stevens and John Howard Stevens Architects.
