Turnpike, South Portland, 1982

Contributed by Maine Historical Society

Maine motorists bought some $60,000 worth of commuter passes to help beat the cost of increased fares on the Maine Turnpike in May, 1982. The Maine Turnpike Authority hoped to break even on the venture, even though the passes reduced the cost by 60 percent.
