Flag from North Pole, Augusta, 1982

Governor Joseph E. Brennan accepted a State of Maine flag that was flown over the North Pole. Presenting the flag were Dr. Ladd Meldenbrand, left, and Al Leibowitz, both of Portland. They were the first to visit the North Pole since explorer Admiral Robert Peary went in 1909.
