Pejepscot Company Records, Volume 5, 1673–1856

Contributed by Maine Historical Society

Description

Volume 5 of the Pejepscot Proprietors Papers was arranged and bound by the library staff of the Maine Historical Society in or around 1864. In contrast to the volumes bound by the company, Volume 5 is a compilation of supplementary records generated by the Pejepscot Proprietors, offering contextual details about larger corporate activities that were not always explored in the official bound company volumes. There are materials (mostly written on blue paper,) that were added as the volumes were bound in 1864. These include small genealogies and histories, most likely written by John McKeen to provide additional context to the primary source material.

Along with the added genealogies and histories, this volume also contains original depositions, correspondence, meeting minutes, notes, affidavits, and general meeting notices relating to the settlement of Topsham, Brunswick, Georgetown and other lands the company claimed.

This volume is part of a larger archival collection (Coll. 61), which is completely digitized. To search the entire collection visit our Beyond Borders search page.
