Description
Hinkley Landing, at the end of West Georgetown Road, was a busy business center when people and goods traveled by water.
A small launch arrived with some passengers about 1910, while a sailing scow loaded soft wood pulp logs. The vehicles on the dock were probably picking up or delivering goods or passengers.
Diners who arrived by boat or automobile could enjoy meals of fresh local seafood in the building right on the dock. The building next to it was known as Harrington’s Landing, the earlier name of Hinkley Landing. For many years the landing was a regular Kennebec steamboat stop, with Captain Jim Perkins of Popham at the helm.
The main house on the right is still standing as of 2021. The two buildings on the wharf are gone.
