Description

Shoulder frills and a high lace trimmed collar distinguish this late 19th century cape. The cream-colored flannel cape is accented with purple velvet. A wide purple silk ribbon neck tie matches the silk lining.

A label stitched to the interior collar stated: "WATERLOO HOUSE & SWAN & EDGAR LTD. / PICCADILLY & REGENT ST. / LONDON." The Waterloo House & Swan & Edgar was a large London department store in Piccadilly Circus. The name changed to Swan & Edgar in 1896, which helps date the cape.
