Description

This two-piece brown faille dress is notable for its iridescent hexagonal glass bead buttons and edge trimming, large looped-up bustle, and a skirt front with an asymmetrically draped swag. Tapes used to hold the bustle in shape survive on the inside of the dress.

Ida Maxwell Bowles (1858-1934) of Gorham wore this dress when she married Dr. Charles R. Anderson on May 18, 1886 in Westbrook.
