Description

In the earliest days of Houlton the downtown square was called Washington Square. By the mid 1800s it became Market Square as we know it in 2020.

The Free Masons erected a statute of Washington to remind us of this history. George Washington's likeness has been seen with a stocking cap during the Christmas season, but currently he is taking the pandemic seriously by wearing a face mask.
