Description

Made of a brown, coffee colored figured silk, this two-piece dress features a square dot and leaf design. The simple flat front skirt, with just enough fullness at the back to form a small bustle ‘bump,' hangs straight, in modest folds with no looped drapery. The bodice includes a faux capelet, with figured ribbon on the cuffs and around the collar. Twelve metal rose and leaf design buttons are down the front.

Emma W. Farrington (1837-1916) wore this dress at her wedding to Rev. Francis Southworth in Holden on March 3, 1861.
