Description

The Maine General Hospital building dominated the skyline of the West End neighborhood. Before 1960s, there were no parking garages and the plateau area behind the hospital buildings was used for parking. As the hospital expanded, parking in the neighborhood had become scarce, so the Bramhall Reservoir was leased and then purchased the property to alleviate parking issues. The lot bordered Bramhall, Chadwick, and Vaughan Streets. The lot had previously been a reservoir for the city but was drained when no longer needed for water.
