Description

Henry Adams Neely was consecrated as the second Episcopal Bishop of Maine on January 25 1867. Born in 1830, he studied at Hobart College and graduated in 1849.

Neely worked as a tutor between 1850 and 1852, whilst he was studying for a Bachelor of Divinity. In 1866 he was awarded a Doctor of Divinity from Hobart.

Bishop Neely is accredited for the building of Saint Luke's Cathedral in Portland. He was also instrumental in advancing the Episcopal church throughout Aroostook and Washington Counties. He died in office on October 31, 1899.
