Description

Bangor and Aroostook Railroad snow plows, built by the Russell Snow Plow Company of Ridgeway, Pennsylvania, are lined up in storage on a siding in Oakfield during the off season. When winter came they would be distributed around the B & A track system ready for use. During the off season they were brought to Oakfield for repair. The snow plows had living quarters for the operator because they were sometimes gone "on the road" for days. In the rear of the car was a compartment for the operating pistons that powered the plow wings and the "flanger." The flanger feet cleared snow away from below the rail height to make clearance for the wheels.
