Description

The George W. Bourne House, also known as the "Wedding Cake House" in Kennebunk was built between 1826 and 1829. The elaborate "icing-like" trim was added to the home in 1855, dating this daguerreotype during or just after that year. The cased dimage shows the house, the barn and an ornate fence.

This daguerreotype is an "after" photograph. A companion (before) image also exists in the Vickery-Shettleworth collection of early Maine photography. The photographer is unknown.
