Description
Philip Parsons, County Extension agent for Waldo County on left, and A.D Nutting, Forest Specialist from the University of Maine, Orono, helped Troy town officials prepare, plan, and establish a town forest in the 1940s.
Town selectmen took ownership of over 1,000 acres of abandoned farms in Troy for back taxes and town needed to find ways to utilize land and stabilize taxes. Their solution was to create a town forest with an active forest management by a town committee that included logging and better forest management practices.
