Description
The Portland Fire Department used their new steel extension ladder truck during this fire at the Libby Building on 570-572 Congress St. The building housed a restaurant, several business offices, and apartments.
According to the front page of the August 21st Portland Evening Express, three building occupants were rescued from the roof using this ladder. The fire, which caused $100,000 worth of damage, started around 9 a.m., probably in the basement. 10 fireman were injured or overcome by smoke; most of whom were treated next door in the Chipman food store.
