Description

Flossie Gilmore was born in Westport in 1879 to Lydia Ellen Dunton and James Gilmore. A good student, she graduated from Bath High School in 1896 and was later accepted at Radcliffe College in Cambridge, Massachusetts.

Gilmore graduated in 1906 and was said to be the first female Ivy League college graduate from Westport Island. She went on to become a school teacher in Concord and Woburn Massachusetts, returning to her home in Westport every summer.
