Description

The Class of 1908 consisted of at least 14 boys and 5 girls. The class motto was “Non Solum Nobis.” There were no school records available to identify class members in the Lincoln Academy Class of 1908, or the identities of the individuals in this photo. The frame indicates that the portrait is from 1908.

A newspaper article in the Lewiston Sun Journal, June 20, 1908, lists members of the class as: Herbert L. Bryant, Helen A. Snow, Walter R. Wilson, "Hilda" Rayhill, Rachel Capen, Harold P. Vannah, Harold O. Page, Allan L. Carter, Elsie M. Dodge, Harry W. Palmer, F. Kendrick Hackett, Harrison B. Puffer, Lawrence A. Averill, Louis E. Moody, Bernard S. Keene, Sheridan H. Hall, Jesse B. Dodge, Helen M. Nichols, Henrietta G. Palmer, and Harold E. Chase.

Lincoln Academy in Newcastle was chartered in 1801 by the General Court of Massachusetts 'for the purpose of promoting Piety, Religion, and Morality' and is the fourth oldest secondary school in Maine that is still in existence as of 2022.
