Description

Chansonetta Stanley Emmons made this image of a farmer’s child during a painting and photography residency with William Preston Phelps in Chesham, New Hampshire.

In addition to Phelps, other influences on Chansonetta included painter JG Brown, with whom she studied with in the early 1900s, known for his idealized portraits of children, especially those experiencing urban poverty.
