Description

Chansonetta Stanley Emmons photographed and hand colored this lantern slide of a woman passing water to a man atop a full wagon of hay. Emmons often photographed nostalgic rural life in the early 20th century, specifically in Western Maine. However, the location of this subject matter is unknown.

Emmons, born in Kingfield in 1858, traveled in New England and beyond focused on rural life and scenery. Photography took her to the Carolinas, New England, Colorado, Canada and Europe.
