Description
Herbert Cobb began serving in the U.S. military in September 1916, in Laredo, Texas with the Mexican Border Guard. He was then transferred to Camp Bartlett in Massachusetts in August 1917 and was sent overseas in October. A month after arriving in France, Herbert was selected to attend Officer Training School for three months. He was officially commissioned as Lieutenant H. G. Cobb of the 103rd U.S. Infantry of the American Expeditionary Forces on February 8, 1918. After training he spent about a month on the front lines in France.
Herbert's twin brother, Sumner, also served in the military, but stateside.
