Sanford to Cape Porpoise trolley car, Cape Porpoise, ca. 1900

Description

The first trolley company running in the Kennebunks was the Mousam River Railroad Company, followed by the Sanford and Cape Porpoise Railroad Company. Number thirteen trolley belonged to the latter and was pictured on the tracks in Cape Porpoise.

This line was originally used to haul coal from Cape Porpoise to Sanford, it expanded its service to carry passengers by the 1900s. The last car made the line's final run about 1927.
