Description

The Hon. Rufus King, a U.S. Senator wrote from Newburyport, Massachusetts to John Lowell, Esq. of Boston to inquire about the purchase price of a farm for sale in Biddeford, District of Maine, on behalf of Dr. Aaron Porter (1752-1837).

Dr. Porter was Senator King's brother-in-law, having married his sister, Paulina King (1759-1833) in April 1777. The Porters resided in Biddeford for many years, but had moved to Portland by 1810. Paulina King Porter was also half-sister to Maine's first governor, the Hon. William King.

The Porters lived in the Nason's Hill area of Biddeford, but it is not know whether it was land purchased from Mr. Tyng as a consequence of this letter.
